This election represents an extraordinary time in our country. A time when barriers are being broken down, ceilings are being shattered, and hopeful beliefs in a better future are being spoken of daily.

In Nevada, our education system IS our future.

Our children and their children must be taught to think and to be creative, to learn from all sources and be excited about knowledge.

This Country is always at its best when we accept, acknowledge, and applaud our differences.  Children want to learn, they want to dream, they want to succeed.  Our job is to provide them with the tools, the talent, and the environment to let them explore their own identities.  Great teachers know this.  Great teachers do this.  Great parents know and do this.

We have an opportunity at this time to focus real energy and resources on our schools.  We can make our children a priority.  We can make teachers a priority and compensate them in the manner they deserve.  We can make education about learning and not about test taking.  We can teach children that they can educate themselves about anything in this electronic age of instant access to knowledge.  We can encourage individualism and creativity.

These are things we can do now, because the time is right.

Ken McKenna will seize this opportunity to make education in the State of Nevada better for all involved.
